After months of being behind the technology curve Google has finally brought the “Find My Phone” feature to Android, much to the delight of Android users who wanted to believe that their phones might be good enough to be stolen, even though deep in their hearts they knew they were not.

“I used to get nervous when I would go to Starbucks and have to leave my Android tablet on the table in order to carry my pastry and coffee back. I just knew it was a high-theft item… but now with the Android Device Manager I can quickly find it if it were to get stolen, misplaced or dropped in a trash bin somewhere.”

The Android Device Manager was announced on Google’s blog and will work with any Android device using the 2.2 platform or higher… which is for all intents and purchases everything active in the market today. The service will allow you to register the device, and then discover it using basic location positioning. It can also send a noise or vibration event to the device in the event it’s stuffed behind a cushion somewhere, or wipe it completely in the event you’re an angry husband wanting to get revenge on your ex-wife who has the phone on your data plan.

The service will go live later this month.
